COVID-19 AND THE EARTH

The best friends.

Covid -19 and planet earth . Never has the earth been so clean and free of pollution. World super powers like U.S.A, Russia ,Canada ,China ,India ,France ,England, Italy have been emitting high level of green house gases, carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere. All oil refineries, coal mines, cement factories have abruptly stopped their activities.

Prior to covid-19 pandemic, the sky was dotted with airplanes. Every second, a plane takes off from somewhere around the world. All the planes have been grounded .International conventions on climate changes, emission of carbon dioxide ,save the planet earth and others , ratified by many countries have been and will be an eye wash , a waste of time and money.

Covid-19 has been quick and sharp to save mother Earth . Carbon dioxide is at its lowest level actually. At such a low level, that some people in India were not aware of the the presence of Mount Himalaya ,as it is was veiled by smoke emitted by industries , is now visible from miles.

Covid-19 will soon be defeated. Vaccines will be created to fight the disease. The world will start all its activities. Planet Earth will suffocate again and remember his best friend, COVID-19.

WHAT IS EARTH DAY ?
It is an annual event celebrated around the world every 22nd of April. In 1969, the peace activist John Mc Connel proposed a day to honour the Earth, at a UNESCO meeting.
It was first celebrated in 1970 to honour the Earth and arise awareness on the protection of the environment. 193 countries, including Mauritius, celebrate Earth day .
This year was the 50th anniversary of Earth Day . Earth Day reminds us to take care of our planet by planting more trees.
Some ideas for Earth Day
- Plant wild flowers and trees.
-Reduce the dependency on plastics
-Plant vegetables and flowers in your garden
-Practice organic gardening and produce organic vegetables.

A new nature trail Daruty Forest ,Petit Raffray

Daruty nature trail, at Petit Raffray.

Due to the pandemic covid 19, the launching of forestry service new product , nature trail at Petit Raffray has been delayed.

The new nature trail will be the 5th nature trail of the Forestry service in Mauritius. 

Situated at Petit Raffray , amid a mixed  plantation of trees consisting of Araucaria, tecoma, mahogany, eucalyptus, cordia and others.

One of the main attraction of Daruty forest among others is the Eucalyptus citriodora plantation.

Early in the morning, you can breathe pure air and citronella perfume,coming from Eucalyptus citriodora plantation.

The forest also harbours fragments of structures of ancient civilisation that still exist in the forest , for example the old sugar mill, old chimney , well, etc.

The 4 other nature trails of forestry service are found at Powder Mills, Mont Vert,Plaine Sophie and Bras D'eau.
